I got this for my husband. At Cabela's it was over $500.00 and this price was way better and it works amazing. He loves it.
When using this unit along with other Garmin Rino 530s it allowed us to hunt vast wilderness having great success. I also intend to use them snowmobiling. I think this is a great unit.
I have owned and used a few other handheld GPS units and after owning the Rino I won't use anything else. This unit has any and all features that other units have but the rino series has the ability to update your position to your friends if they have a similar unit. This feature works great if you are hunting or hiking with a group of people and want to know exactly where they are in relationship to you. Any geocacher, hiker, outdoorsman or land surveyor would love this GPS unit.You can use it for road travel as well if you want to update the software to city streets but if that is your main purpose you may want to find something like a NUVI or Tom-Tom instead.
Thanks to Amazon for being about $100 dollars cheaper, I could afford the 1/24000 maps that I wanted. So you have to buy the Garmin Map ranging for $70-120.
It was great for locating areas in the dark that I would not have found without it. The radio works without any problems.
I used the 530HCX on my sons elk hunting trip. The only drawback is that the GPS comes with a very minimal map the is almost usless.
This GPS is my first, and I can't believe how intuitive and responsive it is. Extremely easy to operate, even if you've never used one before.
I thought that with the price, they could have at least put on your local area topos. Awesome purchase if you ask me.
Good battery life (better than I expected). Pretty much everything you need for hunting and fishing, especially if you're with other Garmin owners. Make sure you invest 3 to 4 solid hours to understand how to navigate all the features and capabilities, and you will be very happy with this device. Best part: you can wander around aimlessly focusing on the hunt. The peer-to-peer location and communication is outstanding. The Topo map is essential for hunting. no worries. the Garmin will lead you home.
